Living in the beautiful Lowcountry of Charleston, South Carolina I get a lot of requests for ocean, nautical, and other water-type themes. Let me tell you something, they never get old! When I found out I was pregnant with my first, we also had a nautical theme nursery with whales and waves and it always brings me back to the feeling I had while planning my sweet boy's nursery.
Miss Delaney's mom request some photos to be a coastal theme for her session and when I came across this image, I had to use it. It turns out, it was also her parents' favorite as well! After all, who doesn't love seeing their baby on a little pedestal?!
In adding in another touch of coastal, we also went for this beloved seashell with pink touches. This shell is a popular choice amongst my coastal parents, so we also offer it with touches of blue!
When incorporating a theme, oftentimes the entire session is not geared towards the theme. We always suggest to incorporate some neutral images that will compliment your home decor as well. Since we were doing a cream/neutral coastal theme, we decided to keep the rest of the session in that neutral color palette as well so it would flow nicely in an album or on the wall.
Adding in color with props and accessories, we created an absolutely amazing gallery for this sweet girl.
In moving on to the parent shots, we went with a bolder color backdrop to compliment their darker colored shirts. I have completely fallen in LOVE with a dark backdrop for parent portraits. It pops. It's dramatic. It places focus on the family. And I am completely obsessed!
Finally, in talking with this momma' I learned she had a somewhat recent battle with cancer just prior to finding out she was pregnant with her miracle baby. In listening to her story in amazement, she asked if we could do a photo the included her port-scar. I was over-the-moon happy to oblige! She has such an amazing story of strength to share with her daughter one day, and now she has an image to reflect the battle and her transition into motherhood at that time.
