Top 6 Questions to Ask Before Booking A Newborn Photographer

Choosing a photographer to perfectly capture your brand new baby can seem like a daunting task when you are so busy preparing for his or her arrival. When there are so many photographers to choose from these days, how will you know if you are making the right decision? These 6 questions should get you on your way to booking your newborn photographer!

1. When should I schedule my newborn session?

Most photographers will suggest booking your session in your 2nd trimester, usually after the anatomy scan. This will help to ensure your due date is booked on the schedule and will ease the last minute stress of finding a newborn photographer!

2. How old does baby need to be for the session?

The answer to this will vary based on the photographer and other pertinent information (i.e. if baby is a premie, etc). My personal requirement for a full-term, healthy baby is 7-21 days old but can be adjusted on an as needed basis.

3. Do you offer digitals or products?

Not all photographers offer products and/or digitals! If one or the other means a lot to you, you will need to make sure the photographer you are wanting to book will offer what you desire so there are no surprises when it comes time to do the session.

4. What experience do you have with newborn safety?

This is one of the most important questions to ask! When preparing for a new baby, we often research the safest car seats, strollers, etc. so why not do the same for the photographer who will be handling and posing your baby?!

5. Do you have props?

If you are wanting a posed studio session, it is important to know if the photographer will be supplying props or if you will need to bring them with you. My studio is fully equipped with all props, wraps and accessories that are hand selected by me and, oftentimes, come from women all over the world including the UK and Estonia! I feel that a beautiful prop selection is crucial to execute a beautiful, customized session.

6. Do you have a studio or travel?

This may or may not be important to you, however some newborn photographers will travel to your home for the session if you do not feel you may be up for leaving the house!
